Infusing JOY into the work we do

I was having a conversation with a client the other day and we were talking about how much easier it is to do tasks that you love versus tasks that feel like a chore. That when we do things that we enjoy, there is an ease to them. We find (and when I say find, I mean make) the time to do them. They just seem to flow freely or come naturally, as if we have all of the time in the world.

BUT, when it comes to things that we don’t enjoy, or feel like we “have to do”, it can feel like a chore- we struggle, watching the clock every 5 minutes (or 1 minute, depending on the task), we complain, and we get stuck in our heads (when will this be over? Ugh, this is taking FOREVER. Why did I even sign up for this?)

When we are working on changing ourselves, sometimes we need to work on things that feel difficult or like a chore. But, what if instead of thinking of them as a chore or a struggle, we infused a lightness to them? That we made the tasks that weren’t as enjoyable into something fun and playful?

How much easier would it be if we infused joy into our goals and tasks? Such as putting on music and dancing while doing the dishes? Or, listening to a favorite audiobook while cleaning the yard? Or, rewarding ourselves after completing a project at work?

How would you like to infuse joy into the tasks you don’t enjoy (so that they can be more enjoyable and easier to accomplish)?
